Zeroing a Red Dot: A No-Nonsense Walkthrough

·

Zeroing isn’t complicated, but the internet makes it feel that way. Here’s the version I actually use at the range.

The steps

  • Bore-sight or get a rough zero close — start at 25 yards to save ammo.
  • Fire a 3-round group from a stable rest. Aim at the same spot every time.
  • Adjust toward the group center. Most dots move point-of-impact in clear clicks.
  • Confirm with a fresh group, then verify at your real distance.

That’s it. The discipline is in the fundamentals — same hold, same trigger press, same spot — not in the gear.

Safety first, always: eyes and ears on, muzzle discipline, and know your backstop.
